21 Weeks

We just got back from another doctor appointment -- so many appointments while you're pregnant! All is well. Our doctor reassured us that the placenta/cervix issue is no big deal and said that in 99.9% of cases, it does not end up being a problem. She also told us that everything else they checked in the ultrasound last week (heart, kidneys, spine, brain, bones, etc) looks great. So, that was good to hear. We listened to her heart for awhile (which is always cool), and the dr. told us everything else with the pregnancy is on track (the baby's growth, my weight gain, etc). All in all, a fine appointment.

There isn't much more to report. We did start cutting into the kitchen walls last weekend -- so it may be a crazy month in terms of home remodeling. I'll post pictures of the chaos once we get into the thick of it.

First Post

As many of you know, I am not a big fan of blogs... but, despite that, we've decided to create a private blog for a small group of close friends and family in order to have a means of sharing the latest news and photos about this pregnancy and the baby. I'm hoping that by limiting the blog to close friends and family, this will feel less like blogging and more like sending out the occasional mass email with pictures -- only in a format that is a bit easier to read than an email.

In terms of where we're at --

We're about half-way through the pregnancy. Here I am at 17 weeks (I'm not so good at self portraits).

Our due date is June 11th (Eric's birthday). We just found out we're having a girl! We were both somewhat surprised -- we thought it was a boy (or maybe we just really liked our boy name). But, it's a girl - and we're really excited. No name picked out yet -- girl names are tough.

The ultrasound this last week was mostly uneventful -- here are a few pictures (her profile and a foot -- there were a lot of other pictures, but these two are the best shots).

The dr. was a little concerned that the placenta is too close to the cervix - so we're going back in 8 weeks for another ultrasound. Hopefully everything will be OK - and it'll be fun to get another look at her. Although, I don't think she liked the ultrasound... she proceeded to kick up a storm the rest of the day.

The whole pregnancy seems to be flying by -- we have a lot to do before she arrives (home repairs, getting our jobs squared away to allow some time away from the office once she arrives, hiring, etc). But, we're continuing to tick the various tasks off our list. The electrical guy comes today - and tomorrow we'll be off picking out new doors for the kitchen work we're about to embark on.

I think that's a good summary of where we're at. More later.
